The Editorial
By Scot Rhoads
Scott Cunningham Lives
As many of you know, Scott Cunningham came down with cryptococcyl meningitis while on tour in Salem a couple months ago. Though this was a very threatening condition, Scott is now doing well. He is recuperating at home, working on various writing projects and undergoing further treatment as an outpatient. It will be some months before he fully recovers and returns to his busy schedule of public appearances (such as the one inaccurately advertised in the latest Llewellyn New Times).
The "insurance technicality" that the New Times mentioned is an absence of health insurance, leaving Scott with a large bill to cover. Friends and fans can help alleviate this burden by contributing to:
The Scott Cunningham Medical Fund
8431 Beaver Lake Dr.
San Diego, CA 92119
Scott expresses his gratitude to the many people who have offered their support, well wishes and healing energy. We join the metaphysical community in wishing him a speedy recovery.
Yet Another Correction
Contrary to last issue's announcement, it seems that Rick Carlson has not generously donated the name New Moon Rising. We thought that he had given us his blessing to use this name (the title of a publication he put out a few years ago), before we settled on the name Rose & Quill. It seems that, due to a misunderstanding or a change of heart, we do not have his blessing at this point. The tone of his communication suggested that he wants this known.
Disappearing Magazines
We have not had nearly as bad a problem with undelivered magazines since we switched to the Spring Valley post office, but it still happens. Sometimes, it is our fault (data entry errors, etc.). Sometimes they fall into the mysterious black hole that lurks in the U.S. Postal Service. Often, we get magazines back when people neglect to give us an address change. Because we are using bulk mail, when the postman "returns a magazine" it is with postage due, and is usually just a photocopy of the envelope. Additionally, if we send it back out with the new address, it must be regular post, because we are 199 short of the bulk mail minimum quantity. We want to offer people a good deal, so we have a very small markup on the New Moon Rising. A return means that we lose money on that magazine.
Let us know if your issue has not arrived within a month of the due date (the 1st of Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, and Nov). If it is not your fault, we will immediately send a replacement, first class. If you neglected to send a change of address, or it is in some other way your responsibility, we ask that you send us a dollar or two to help cover our extra expenses. We hope you understand that this helps keep subscription rates low and us in business.
Wedding!
I want to announce that Judith Wise and I married (legally this time!) on June 23rd. She is my embodiment of the Goddess, and I hope I can similarly embody the God for her. I want everyone to know how much I love her, so I am sharing this expression of some of my love:
Love Triumphant
This life of saltor tears, of blood, of sweat
Did scarce sustain my desp'rate starving soul.
Unheard, unblessed, by world and selves beset,
I ask how many lives to `fill life's goal.
I do not choose this world, but I choose you.
For love of life and Ge, let's stay to heal.
This inner task seems more than gods can do,
Yet fades to naught beside the love we feel.
This world's great love and beauty shine in thee.
You lift the mist that hides creation's grace.
Let souls unite, then even here will be
The bliss we so deserve, when we embrace.
Let's reaffirm upon this sacred ground:
In ev'ry way we are forever bound. |
