Lady of the Moon
From the mountains, the distant sounds
of thunder reach my ears.
I'm frightened, as the lightning strikes
and give in to my fears.
Then, from the very blackest night
a shaft of light appears.
A lady, all luminous in white
wipes away my frightened tears.
A single thought rushed through my mind
as she chased away my dread.
This wondrous spirit holds my heart
as my mother holds my head
And comforts me with secret things
as I huddle in my bed.
"You need not fear, my precious dear,"
the lovely Lady said.
And when the morning came at last
and found me where I lay.
I begged the Lady, not to leave,
and yet she wouldn't stay.
"The Moon belongs within the night,
the Sun belongs to day"
Was all the Lady said to me,
and then she was away.
No longer do I fear the sounds
of thunder in the night.
Yet often times I lay awake
to marvel at the sight
Of lovely moonbeams shining down
on Earth to my delight
I've never seen the Lady since
she soothed away my fright.
But sometimes I can hear her voice
carried on the moonlight. |
