Astrological Forecast

May—June, 1990

Terry Lamb, M.A.

We congratulate Terry Lamb on the recent birth of her second son, Aryndell Galen Lamb Marsh, on March 28th—weeks before his carefully planned birth date. This gives him an Aries Sun, Taurus Moon and Gemini rising—despite careful planning on his parent's part. He had an easy birth at Terry's home in Spring Valley. Galen was 7 lbs., 10 oz. and 19 3/4" long. Mother and son are well and happy. We wish them all the best.

Is it soup yet? Well, as far as the planets are concerned, it is! During May and June, we have something we can really sink our teeth into!

The major phenomena of May and June involve the "Three Bears," the planets transiting Capricorn. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are still closely grouped there—although Saturn, with its faster motion, is now moving ahead. Since none of these planets move quickly, their effects are quite noticeable and long-term. During this time we will also see the "waking of the Three Bears" which the Sun activated in April. During May and June, Mars will have its turn by squaring them as well. Besides the Sun and Mars, Jupiter also triggers major effects by transit. Jupiter is opposing the Capricorn trio and will also be involved in Mars' activation. These events will fairly light the skies with milestone occurrences around the world.

MAY: May begins with Beltane, a celebration of the solar cross-quarter (halfway point) between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Although traditionally celebrated on May 1st (May Day), the true solar cross quarter is now on the 5th, owing to the precession of the Earth's polar axis. At Beltane, the rites of spring are held—the Maypole dance, the Sacred Marriage and the celebration of the ascending light.

However, this is a time of planetary events that we should not ignore. Recall that Mercury is also retrograde at this time; the Sun's conjunction with Mercury on the 3rd signals the start of the new Mercury cycle, even though Mercury is still retrograde. Saturn turns retrograde on the 4th. What responsibilities and plans you began at the beginning of January (when the Sun conjuncted Saturn) will begin to operate without your urging at this time.

The Sun opposes Pluto on the 6th, bringing about a crisis in situations begun during the first part of November. This has traditionally been an explosive aspect on a mundane (world events) level. We can expect some violence and terrorism as well as a rebirth in consciousness on a personal level. If Pluto contacted your chart during its transit any time since November, this will be an important date for you (as well as the days surrounding it).

The Wesak Full Moon falls on May 9th. As you may recall from last issue, the Wesak Festival is a worldwide celebration coinciding with an infusion of energies from the Christ and Buddha into our planetary sphere. Although this takes place in Tibet, those who can channel it pass the energy around the world. If you can, be in meditation at the exact time of the eclipse (12:31 p.m., Pacific Time) to help disseminate the energy, but it will help if you do so at any time that day.

When Jupiter opposes Uranus on the 13th, you will be experiencing the third and final opposition. The first two occurred on August 8th and December 29th, 1989. This will bring a sort of resolution of situations that developed around these dates; but since Uranus is retrograde, we can expect final resolution in September when it returns to direct motion. Events at this time should be activating, and we will gain more insight into the nature of the Capricorn triple conjunction and its implications to us personally and on a worldwide level.

Mercury stops and turns around again on the 16th. At last, most of us can go back to "normal" Mercury mode. Those who have Mercury retrograde natally tend to thrive on the retrograde period, which is their "normal."

When the Sun enters Gemini on May 21st, we enter a period of lively mental focus. One can envision the spring lamb full of life kicking up its heels and investigating everything in the meadow. The New Moon follows closely, starting the lunar cycle during which the Wesak energies manifest on earth. Expect a mental approach to prevail in whatever house in your chart is lit up at this time.

JUNE: There are no more major planetary events until the Full Moon on June 8th. This is the Full Moon when we focus on right human relationship. This not only includes relationships between humans but the relationship of the human species to other species and to our living planet.

Mars begins its activation of the Three Bears in Capricorn with its square to Uranus on June 11th. This is a traditionally volatile aspect, sometimes signaling accidents and generally bringing out the unpredictable in all situations. Of course, the unpredictable can be miraculous as well as "unfortunate." Look back to the time when Mars conjuncted Uranus (February 9th—on the lunar eclipse!) for clues to the events at this time.

Mars squares Neptune, the second of the Three Bears to be so awakened by Mars, on June 18th. This square can bring activation of the spiritual consciousness into the ego structure, but it can also herald acts of victimization and disasters involving insidious influences (poisonous gases, etc.). It is a good time to look for contacts to your natal chart and lock your doors at night. If you wish to redirect this energy, do so by consciously using this energy in another way—meditate to bless with greater understanding all those perpetrating acts of violence, or write in your journal to pierce the confusion you may be experiencing at this time. Often people feel goaded to act on impulse during this time without knowing where they are headed. Wait until the confusion clears before acting or making any decisions.

When the Sun enters Cancer on June 21st, we experience the summer solstice (Midsummer's Day), the longest day, when the light is at its zenith. Now we begin the slow surrender to darkness which ends at the winter solstice in December. Although this is traditionally a time of celebration, the rituals of this time also remind us of the returning darkness.

The New Moon in Cancer falls on the 22nd. Mark this as a time to begin activities with a nurturing focus, no matter what they are.

Mars squares Jupiter (which has been opposing the planets in Capricorn) on the 25th. This will energize again the complex of energies operating on the Cancer<196>Capricorn axis. This is likely to bring some significant events, both personally and on a global level; but they will be part of the continuum of events beginning at the end of 1989, all relating to the nature of the Triple Conjunction in Capricorn. The Sun’s opposition to Uranus only 4 days later increases the potency of this period, on the 29th. Again, look to the Mars opposition to Jupiter and the conjunction of the Sun to Uranus for clues to the nature of this period. It promises to be exciting!

Although at this point, I am
