Janice Hensley's Animal Guides
On page 32 of volume 1, number 4 of the Rose & Quill, Janice Hensley discussed the significance and symbolism of Animal Guides, which have since become a regular feature. One aspect that Janice did not pursue at the time, is the relationship between the Animals and the seasons. This correspondence to astrological signs is based on Native American teachings.

BEAVER
Love of New Surroundings
Build with Joy
Having Strength to reach through obstacles and to use them to advantage, the Beaver shows Man useful ways to release energies that effect change. Strongly hastening toward goals with Man, the Beaver eagerly, quietly and trustingly deals to Man the Aspects of Self that he most needs, as he needs them. Staying valued by Man, the Beaver opens fields of endeavor to Man as she sees them become available. All parts are utilized; none become burdens as Man proves his effectiveness. Leaving rashness to others, the Beaver values methodical approaches and infuses her values into Man to use as he wishes to provide openings. Reaching past Man's need for quiet, the Beaver introduces her own ease with silence and growth to Man. Waiting eagerly to change Man's surroundings, the Beaver raises her goals to Man so that they may become one. Vastly experiencing the cutting away of that which is no longer needed, the Beaver thins Man's perimeters to facilitate her own approach.
EAGLE
Love of Rawness
Survive Easily
Using wings of power, the Eagle opens Man's being to the enjoyment of wildness. Blending passion for risk with Man, the Eagle utilizes his strength to stay above others as an opener to Man. Straining against Man's urges to self inflict casualties, the Eagle raises himself just above Man and tightens himself against all such onslaughts, as Man attempts to close off that from which he must learn. Working above Man, the Eagle holds Man open as Man attempts to shut himself down. The Eagle will not allow Man to shut off his own access to those things he needs to survive. Once the Eagle had bonded with Man, there is no place for timidity nor hesitation. As Man weathers his own inner storms, he becomes more like the Eagle in his ability to judge his strength in trusting himself. Utilizing this willingness to care strongly for protection from Self, the Eagle balances Man alongside his inner Self, oddly appreciating both aspects, and rejoicing as Man and Self merge into a wholeness whose aims are no longer in conflict. By trusting all aspects of his own nature, now Man can conquer ownership of himself. As his own master, Man can become masterful in dealing with anything that would deny his selfness. Quietly the Eagle stays with Man as a watcher of his recovery. Casually wanting all for Man of a causal nature, the Eagle ventures with Man throughout all his search for knowledge and purpose. By readily being available, the Eagle brushes against Man, reminding him of his relationship with himself and encouraging him to fully unfold himself. |
