Rain Forest
By Lady Olivia Roberton
C lothed in impenetrable green, terrible with boa constrictors and other voracious creatures, supporting a life system independent of man, the rain forest is the last vestige of the garden of a lost species. Once the centre of high civilization, glorious with tiered pyramids and temples, nature was tamed and arranged; sky ships looked down upon symbolic markers and animals and knew their way; fruit trees and nut trees supplied the needs of brightly attired men and women while children picked fruit as they clambered upon low hung branches.
Then cataclysm rent the earth and volcanoes erupted and waters rose. That which was fertile land became arid desert; forests with temples and pyramids sank beneath the ocean. Only their magnetic beams still disturb the weedy graveyard beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Reptiles grew to gigantic size; those which once lay basking on stone terraces, played with by women who admired their tiny shining scales. Serpents that ornamented their brown arms grew to colossal size in the newly encroaching wilderness that rose above the floods. Mankind became evil in cruel warfare and sacrificed his kind to appease the encroaching desert.
For thousands of years the forest lay dormant like a rich mantle protecting the earths atmosphere, all unknowingly. Now predatory, greedy man has returned and is dragging away the living mantle of trees from the tortured earth. He poisons the ocean and the mighty river and the sky above. The doom so long foretold is upon him.
B ut the Goddess always provides an antidote for poison. A new humanity is born that will tenderly wrap around the suffering earth with newly planted trees. The waters will be cleansed of pollution, and the sky healed, because the Old Ones return. They who planted the garden and saw it destroyed. Humanity is needed as Guardian of the earth and those who are worthy will survive any disaster in order to play their part in the Divine Drama. The rain forest, renewed, will spread its canopy over animals, birds, and plants. Temples and pyramids, cleansed from the stain of spilled blood, will once more serve as a meeting place for the Deities and humanity. Look into the crystal of the future and see this vision: an earth made perfect.
