| Mirra, Lady of the Pool By Uther Santa Barbara, CA—My friend Cindy and I started out on a Nature Communion Day this past Sunday and took the coastal route up to Santa Barbara. This is always such a treat for me, for being a City Witch and not owning a car (it's my way of contributing to clean air in Southern California) I rarely get a chance to get into the Heartland area's of the Mother. I had prepared a few offerings before I left home for the Nature Spirits. We arrived and decided to have our picnic repast in an area called Rocky Nook Park. It is a beautiful setting of trees, various sized rock formations, and a mini cobblestone pathway with a creek below. Here, I offered my incense gift to the Nature Spirits who contributed to the beauty and splendor of that domain. Afterward we set off to the Botanical Gardens nestled at the foot of some mountains. We parked and began our descent into the garden and hiking trails. As we walked, we talked and reflected on how the different parts of the garden each had its own personality. I explained to her that the whole garden is a living entity with different moods and personalities, very much like us. We continued our walk, enjoying the shade of the trees, smelling the damp earth, listening to the quiet with the sound of a stream faintly trickling in the background. We had gotten to the path beside the stream and there are rocks in the center large enough for one to sit on, which we did. It was there I realized that I'd left my offering of ginger and milk for the Elves and Faeries in the car. What to do? What to do? I thought. I knew I had to offer something natural and something I really liked. So, I lit a cigarette (yes, some of us do smoke you know) and pondered finding something to offer. Well, then it hit me. I put the cigarette out, rolled out the tobacco and charged it there on the spot. Since the Water Spirits inspired me, I made the offering to them. I only asked them to help me to understand them better on a deeper level and cast the charged herb into the water. With that, we took off up the path along the stream. We came to a pool below a wooden bridge, fed by a mini waterfall. The pool is about twenty feet in diameter and we stood enjoying the energy there. Just then, a graceful female arm rose from beneath the water holding a sword. I recognized The Lady of the Lake. She wore a shimmering pale blue dress and had long pink flowing hair. I heard a whisper: Learn the way of the Lady of the Lake, and you shall know our nature. After marveling at this wonderful sight, we made it back to the car and I still made the offering to the Nature Spirits in an area of thick bushes and brush. We took off heading for Burbank. That evening, as I wrote in my journal, my Encyclopedia of Faeries and Supernatural Beings kept tugging at my attention. I had a hunch to look up Lady of the Lake. I did and found a referral to the section on Lake Maidens. I read about them, and sensed a presence as I did. I asked for a name and received the reply: Mirra. She told me she is the Lady of the Pool. She has the ability to teach one to see the beauty in others' hearts and souls (as well as one's own), and to teach one about herbal medicines, and the ways of life and death. She can help one achieve a level of understanding so that they can rejoice in aspects of transition. So, remember, if you are ever in Santa Barbara, stop at the Botanical Gardens and go to the pool below the bridge. Take an offering to Mirra—she'll be delighted you came. I feel I have a friend there. I believe you will too. By the way, don't worry if you've left your intended offering behind. I know she accepts tobacco. Blessed Be!
