And Ye Harm None?

by Cinsearae Santiago

Does that phrase seem familiar? (no pun intended) If so, very good. And if it doesn't, well, you'll find yourself up to your eyeballs in bad karma. The old Wiccan rede, and ye harm none, do what you will should be taken very seriously. It's all part of the cosmic scheme of things.

If you think positive thoughts, good things will come your way. Thinking negatively will only bring the opposite. True? Definitely.

This also applies to magick. To perform magick to benefit the Earth, yourself, and living creatures will bring you great blessings. To go around hexing, hoodooing, cursing and evil-eyeing people will only make your life chaotic, disoriented, and probably cause you to trip and fall flat on your face.

This also brings to mind The Law of Three: Whatever you do, good or bane, shall return to you three fold.

Now think hard. Which would you rather do? ?I thought so.

And although magick shouldn't be done to harm or hurt, it can be used to defend or protect. Note the difference, guys.

I can't stress this enough. If you need an example, here's a short story for you.

A friend of mine and I have been Wiccans for a few years now. But my friend sort of, well, strayed a bit.

We constantly talked on the phone, or wrote to each other, trading helpful spells and prayers. This went on for quite some time until she wrote to me one day saying she met someone who knew sorcery. Weeks later she wrote again after working spells and rituals with this person, (oddly, she gave me no name) and what she wrote was no surprise to me.

A co-worker on her job (another female) harassed her and bullied her and called her a few names out of sheer spite. My friend went to her boss, and the boss gave the other woman fair warning. But the bullying continued. So my friend tried some kind of curse one night. Well, very shortly, her job came under new management, and she, along with the woman and a few other people were laid off.

So after weeks of tramping through the streets searching for another job, she found one. She then met a guy she really liked. He was not married, but he was involved. Again, she tried a spell to break up him and his girlfriend. It worked for a short while until the girlfriend found the two of them together at his apartment. My friend gets beat up, and the guy winds up going back to his girlfriend.

One more story to go tsk, tsk at: My friend loves money, she won't date any guy without it. She told me she did a money spell to attract money from anywhere into her life. Well, she got her wish. She met a nice guy who was pretty well off. Money was no object; he'd buy her anything she asked for. But there was one catch. She wasn't romantically attracted to the guy! He was madly in love with her though. She tried doing spells to get rid of him, but they always backfired. They only drew him closer to her. Now she's stuck in a relationship that doesn't make her completely happy.

I saw her not too long ago. She looked tired, haggard and worn out, obviously from her overexertions with sorcery. She envied how calm and placid I was. She asked me to enlighten her; tell her where she went wrong. I explained what she did and asked her to stop using the spells her new friend told her to use. I hope she listened to me, and I hope she won't get mad at me for writing this out for all to see. But there's a lesson here, and I think you know it.

So, for all those new Wiccans just learning about the Old Ways, the truth is this: like attracts like. Love is the Life and Light in all, and Darkness will get you nowhere.

Blessed Be!

Cinsearae Santiago
