Plastic Needlepoint Pentagram By Susan Baxter of Starwood Using a 3 inch darcie crafty circle and inch satin ribbon you can make a pentagram that you can wear or hang in a window or over your altar. The crafty circle is different in that it is a square grid with a ring around it rather than a circle that builds outward from the center. You will need 4 to 5 yards of ribbon of color `A' (for the star and circle) and 3 to 4 yards of color `B' (for the background). The 1/8 inch ribbon is usually available in 10-yard spools for 99 cents each or less. The crafty circles are $1.50 or less for 8—make some for friends, too! You can also use 3 ply yarn or Needle Loft yarn for plastic grid needlepoint. Hold about 1 inch of ribbon `A' behind the edge so that your stitches will catch and hold the tail—overcast about the entire outside ring. Now stitch the star in the half cross-stitch and finish by doing blanket stitch about outer ring (over the overcast stitches). When adding ribbon weave the ends in on back side. Now fill in the background with color `B' in the half cross-stitch. Make a loop to hang it at the top. If you wish, you could add a third color—about 2 feet of very narrow gold cord or 6-strand embroidery thread. Backstitch a row of this color where the outside rings meet the grid. Each person in a group could be identified by a color for the part they play in a group. The ribbon will want to twist, so you will have to work to keep it flat. You could try inching ribbon for a fatter, fuller looking to your stitches.
