Astrological Forecast September October, 1994 By Terry Lamb, M.A. The fruits of 1994 will be borne during September and October. It should be a fruitful year. The fruits of a 20-year cycle will be reaped this fall (and throughout 1995), related to a cycle which began in 1980. Now we are reaping the fruits of Reagan's supply-side economic experiment that ignored the lower classes, high crime, increased drug use, black marketeering, the disappearing middle class and rampant business mergers and takeovers (the new metaphors for bankruptcy). Personal bankruptcy rates continue to be high, and banks have become plutocratic. We have still to fully deal with the Savings and Loan failures of the Reagan era. What good can come of all this? It's reparation and balancing, greater wisdom (we hope) and, just as important, a reparation of the problems which Reagan was trying to address: over-reliance on the government to compensate for social ills without providing a cure, the need for people to take responsibility for their lives and the need for the capability to do so. Health reform is an indirect outgrowth of this, as are the war on drugs and the war on crime. Unfortunately, nothing but an inner revolution can make people have good will toward others or take responsibility for their destiny. That comes slowly, and the culture must grow and learn as a whole about the wisdom of taking responsibility for one's self and caring about others. It has to start with education. We are on the brink of a great revolution in education—including the miseducation that comes through the media, the great gossips and fearmongers. If I am dwelling on the negative, it is to remind us that we have much to repair and that we can cast our vision higher than we have been taught. The world can be a truly better place, and we must first take on the conviction that it can be so before we can begin to create it. I have been talking for several years about re-invention and re-vision. This involves recasting our vision, to realize that we don't have to settle for anything, that we can experience a kinder reality. Only then can we shed the layers of darkness we were taught to wear in our childhood and past lives. September and October will lead us directly into the consideration of these issues as they are reflected in every event and experience around us, from the most global to the most personal. SEPTEMBER: Productivity Leads to Results Although the month of September (with Sun in Virgo setting the pace) is usually busy, this September starts with an unusually heavy load of activities or responsibilities. The challenge properly met will bring reward, however; and if you have planets in Virgo, you may achieve the great treasure you have long been working toward. The activities that you engage in now will relate to plans launched around February 21st, commitments made around June 22nd. Completion and rest from your great task or responsibility will not come until November 9th, with some issues regarding finances, values and relationships remaining to be resolved around November 23rd. This pattern and focus will carry through until the New Moon on October 4th, but of course there will be fluctuations and events during that time which are worth note. Beyond what we experience in our personal lives, we will notice that the predominant issue in the news, as mentioned above, is healthcare reform. The best chance for breakthrough in unifying the factions that have formed around this issue comes during September; but it may not be resolved until that magic November 23rd date, coincidentally (and typically) just before Congress adjourns for the year. This may be true in spite of the best efforts to pass something before the election at the beginning of that month. In addition, peace efforts will be boosted, as people feel more conciliatory in the face of continued hardship during September. In spite of the onus cast upon us on the 1st, the door of opportunity swings wide at the same time, and we shall find the path smoothed before us as we set out to fulfill our commitments. On the 7th, take the time to see what new seeds you may want to plant with respect to health, spiritual growth and interdimensional consciousness. Around the 13th through the 15th, if we are open to unexpected opportunity, we will benefit in the pursuit of our goals. If anything seems overwhelming, you may see relief at this time. Conflicts could surface from out of nowhere on the 18th, but with some perseverance you will find a solution. Remember the harmony that preceded this time and rely on the trust that was built then. Fear is what brings out the apparent negativity in our nature and that of others. Look for the good while you objectively observe negative actions. By observing others' actions with clarity, we can begin to understand what motivates them and so rise above the knee-jerk response to defend ourselves, which contributes to an endless cycle of attack and counterattack. On the 22nd, we can celebrate the conclusion of the growth period of this year's seasonal cycle and begin to focus on the harvest. Now it is time to lay in supplies for the winter, which metaphorically means to prepare for the time of dormancy and internalization that restores us in preparation for next spring's burst of life and activity. On the day of the autumnal equinox, the ancient cultures of Western Europe gave thanks for the year's bounty in the Mabon celebration. This is the second time of equilibrium in the yearly cycle, when day equals night. Deeper issues may emerge around the 23rd, as we enter the second phase of an eightfold cycle that began in October 1988. Since this cycle is one of the longer ones (lasting about 47 years), it has to do with more profound concerns. We will be dealing with shattered ideals, deep disappointments and ways to overcome the methods these have manifested in our lives. We will look for new avenues for the expression of our ideals. Some of these will be found in our personal lives, but others will focus on our system of government and forms of freedom or lack thereof. Specifically, we may be examining our form of representative government and the possibility of campaign reform; but it will go deeper than that, into the most profound levels of trust and trustworthiness. Dan Rostenkowski may become our symbol of this struggle, and his court case may be in the news during the last quarter of the year. If we are wise, we will recognize the tremendous challenge that awaits anyone who seeks to channel power beyond themselves by accepting the challenges of public office; it is very difficult not to want to take some for yourself. Rostenkowski got caught doing what every Congressperson used to consider their right by virtue of office. While his actions may not be condonable, it is certainly out of place for the American people to expect more of their elected officials than they expect of themselves. These issues will provide the background process that motivates the more obvious actions and experiences of our lives for the last half of this year, as indeed it has for the first half. The rest of September accelerates past our vision. Subliminally we may be aware that troubled waters lie ahead; October brings new challenges that may catch many by surprise. OCTOBER: The Magic Theater Begins Right out of the gate, October begins to fulfill its promise. Situations, which arose in mid-January, developed critically at the end of April and reached a crisis around July 6th, are now rapidly resolving themselves, clearing the way for our new vision of the future to manifest itself. The issues which filled the newspapers and airways during the spring and summer months will reach a climax as people struggle to bring reward out of the efforts put in over the past year. Health reform, Whitewater, Rostenkowski, off-year elections will plow a furrow through our consciousness. On the international scene, Haiti, Rwanda and the Balkan conflict will continue to haunt our dreams. If any threats to the Middle East peace have arisen, they will peak at this time, hopefully to be resolved. While much progress may be made in all these situations in September, we must await the energies of the first of October to reveal the true nature of what humans can bring from the fires of the gods and goddesses. Since the New Moon falls on the 4th, so close to the events of the 1st and 2nd, it may be mid-month before we see the full effects of our efforts. And even this may be delayed because of other heavenly wrenches in the works. During this lunar cycle (which generally do not proceed according to plan) it is time to work on balance, harmony and the nature of our relationships. You may notice a twilight feeling related to more than the days getting shorter. If you do, you are right, we are in a twilight period of three cycles, two of which will see the darkness fall on them by mid-month. Since these cyclic changes occur in an irregular pattern, they tend to take us by surprise. Happily, there are many positive energies available by which we can balance out our experiences as they arise, but challenge will still be there. If you have planets in Scorpio or in any of the other fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Aquarius), you will encounter much grist for the mill and plant the seeds for a two-year cycle beginning in January. The first of these Scorpionic effects occurs on October 8th when Mercury goes retrograde. As always, Mercury can bring us situations of minor or major proportion, depending on what we have been creating for ourselves. These effects are not even necessarily bad, and I do not recommend being inactive during Mercury retrograde or trying to avoid any of what life hands you during this time. Try instead to focus on what you are creating through your focus and on your communication. Mercury retrograde will reflect back to you what your focus during the last 3 months has wrought and may suggest to you some changes. People who (unwittingly) practice avoidance or repression will have a generally more difficult time with Mercury during its backward transit. Fortunately, it is short-lived, lasting only until the 29th. However, in the meantime, our beautiful evening star shall start her long earthward dive into the setting sun on October 12th. Venus, just as she reaches her highest and most radiant, turns retrograde to become the morning star in 4 weeks. Her cycle is longer, about 18 months in length. The last Venus retrograde occurred in March and April of 1993. Her cycle has to do with our relationships with others and the effects that are brought to bear on our lives because of them—social, economic, personal, financial. It has also to do with our values. Every 18 months, then, we renew our goals and objectives in these important areas. With the plethora of planets in Scorpio at this time, you can be sure that the issues that arise will be complex. They will include elements of excess, education, expansion, communication, transformation and the fulfillment of purpose. The Full Moon on the 19th will bring out the emotional aspects of these issues and give us a sense a direction and the motivation to do something about them. Chaos prior the Full Moon will change to focused activation after. Communication in relationship will be essential to a positive outcome. Meeting the challenges with optimism will bring the best possible result. On the 23rd, the Sun's ingress into Scorpio starts a month of transition from an outward focus to an inward focus, a little death that we experience each year. The inward focus and its seeming decay is essential to growth and expansion in other parts of the cycle. It gives us time to renew and replenish—the closest humans come to hibernation during the coming winter months. Mercury goes direct just in time for you to have fun at that late-night Hallowe'en celebration on the 29th. Samhain is just two days later, a time to officially welcome this season of turning inward and the death/ending of this year's cycle. Although Samhain is celebrated at the end of October, the actual octicycle which it marks does not begin until November 6th. September and October are full of potential and challenge. They mark the beginning of a focus of life that will not end until after mid-March, and by then we will find that we are living in a different world indeed. Although we may appear to lose control of our destiny during these times, we can place our confidence in the path we have followed and in the inner guidance that led us. It is a time of what goes in must come out. Here's to the best input and the best outcome for you! Blessed Be! |
