The Resolute King Ritual Jay Barrymore From the Mysts of Annwfn Book of Shadows This ritual (derived from Irish/Celtic sources) is designed to be conducted within another rite. Specifically, it is to be included in the Festival of Lights Esbat on December 13th; however, it can also be performed at the Full Moon, or at a Yule Sabbat. It is intended to be followed by a feast in the King's honor. The Resolute King is the God who is awaiting his rebirth at Yule. After sojourning to the Summerland to lift the veil at Samhain, he now awaits to rejoin his mother/wife in the world of the living. This ritual is an endorsement of life at the heart of Winter. Death has the world in its grip, but the King will return and vanquish the Dark Realm. For best dramatic results, use a three-stemmed candelabra, with a white, red and black taper candle. The Maiden is the bearer of the Light, and the High Priestess is the invoker. As the Maiden circumnavigates the circle at each of the four quarters, the High Priestess remains at the center of the circle, and faces each particular direction as she makes her pronouncements. The Maiden approaches the Altar, lights the three candles (white, red, black—in that order). She holds them aloft, and turns to face South for all in the Circle to see. High Priestess: I am Aoibheall [Oay vee hail], from the World of Faery. The cause for the lighting of these candles in every Quarter is for the sake of the Resolute King, who will be with us soon, ruling the three Kingdoms, and maintaining them lastingly. The Maiden moves to the Eastern Watchtower and makes a trine. (The trine is a gesture. She raises the candles first to her left, then down and straight up in front of her, then down and up to her right—reflecting the shape of the three-stemmed candelabra itself). High Priestess: We from the Halls of Siodh Seanaibh [Shee Shawn nave] bring blessings to the East. May the arrival of the King initiate every treetop to bare fruit and nuts unceasing. The Maiden goes to the South and makes a trine. High Priestess: We from the Halls of Siodh Seanaibh bring blessings to the South. May the arrival of the King sprout the Acorns of the Oak and spur the Bees to make honey. The Maiden goes to the West and makes a trine. High Priestess: We from the Halls of Siodh Seanaibh bring blessings to the West. May the arrival of the King coincide with the showering down of a Magick Myst, from Galway of the bright colored stones, to Cork of the Bays. The Maiden goes to the North and makes a trine. High Priestess: As we face the Halls of Siodh Seanaibh, we bring blessings to the North. May the arrival of the King gladden the hearts of those of Faery, and of this world. The Maiden returns to the Altar, but remains holding the candles, facing South. The High Priestess stands in the Goddess Position (arms out to each side) at the Circle's center, facing the Maiden. High Priestess: The Goddess, who is both Virgin and Harlot, awaits the coming of the King. Let those who understand the Good News rejoice and celebrate, and let those who don't, become weak and tremble. For the current Age is marked by a lack of understanding and tolerance, and the King's Feast tonight, signifies Light and Liberation! Reverence the Wheel as it continues to turn! So Mote It Be!(Everyone repeats:So Mote It Be!) After the Coven concludes other ceremonies, etc., everyone then retires to the feast in honor of the God of Light, who will soon return. |
