the Procession of the Equinoxes Phaedron Every 2155 years, the earth changes its character. On the Vernal Equinox (March) of 1904 the aeon of Aquarius began. We are on the brink of this new aeon. What are the Universal Laws of Nature today and how are they different from just a few years ago? How will you adapt to them? The earth spins on its axis and orbits the sun, but the axis is not perfectly still relative to the earth's orbit. Gyroscopic action causes the axis to wobble slightly—that is, the axis itself rotates in a small circle. The earth's axis completes this circle every 25,860 years. Therefore every 2155 years, the North Pole of this axis moves clockwise 30 degrees (1 every 71.8333—say 72—years) which is equivalent of moving through one zodiacal house. Over 2155 years the earth moves from the influence of one astrological sign to the next. The sign determines the prevailing energy that will influence the world for that period. For example, from 251 B.C. to 1904 A.D., the earth was under the energy of Pisces, which relates to institutions and other large entities, sacrifice, religious establishments, devotion and prominence of enemy groups (i.e., secret enemies and armies). The Piscean aeon (2155 year period) saw the organization of a powerful cult called Christianity. Also, we saw other great institutions form and enlist devotion — from the governments of Rome to businesses like Sears. Also people chose the sacrificial Christ as a model for themselves. (Historians please take note of these 2155 year aeons and see how historical events correlate with each sign.) Preceding the Piscean aeon was the aeon of Aries (2406 B.C. to 251 B.C.). At that time the planetary energy was imperial—great emperors ruled, all lands were conquered. Aries is assigned to the Emperor card in the Tarot. In the Aries aeon, taking charge was imminent. People wanted to dominate—either themselves or others. They learned to control their own lives with the guidance of I-Ching and employed the concept of Tao. Moses was then said to be the dominant lawgiver to the masses. Group oppression was giving way to group liberation. In Egypt, the Ram cult and the Ass cult proliferated, both symbols of Aries. A different god is appointed to rule each aeon. In the Egyptian system, the slain and sacrificed god, Osiris, (later named Jesus Christ) ruled the aeon of Pisces. Khem ruled the aeon of Aries. If we consider an aeon as if it were a day, 90 years puts us just one hour into this new, Aquarian aeon. Now is an essential time for us to adjust to this change of energy. These transitional times therefore, see an abundance of encounters with more advanced civilizations. Aquarius represents the advancement of humans as individuals—no more mass movements. Thus institutions, large corporations, governments, etc. are dissolving. Daily, smaller spiritual groups are forming, composed of individuals seeking enlightenment or self improvement. Never before in recorded history has there been such a high rate of new or refounded spiritual groups as there is today. The idea of self sacrifice has transformed into self-improvement. The sign of Aquarius represents technology. At the advent of this Aquarian age, within the figurative first hour of this aeon we already have many technological achievements: we learned to fly; Henry Ford invented the assembly line; Einstein founded relativity; electronic communications have spread; new planets have been discovered that are significant in our evolution; radium, bacteriology, etc. changed medicine; men set foot on the moon; and computers changed the course of the Human Race. In this aeon we will see humans grow from adolescence to maturity. We shall come into our own; thus, Horus, as the crowned and conquering child, is the god of this aeon. Is Aquarian technology the tool with which we will develop our wholistic perfection, or is it a test to see if we are capable of seeing past these shwabti dolls* of mindless computers and recognize ourselves? The answer is different for each individual, because each has a Will that they must use, for this is the aeon of individual Will. Those who become slaves of intellect and ego (the negative attributes of Aquarius) will be swept into the refuse by the natural flow of the Great Creation. Those who derive liberation out of the gross matter (as the alchemists put it so long ago) will change in harmony with Nature (not challenge Her). They will have Nature's rewards, realizing the positive attributes of Aquarius, the sign of humans. (Note that Nature does not mean the external but rather the Laws of one's own perfected self—called God/dess.) For thousands of years, prophets have envisioned this time as the apex of humanity. This transition of aeons will not be easy, as we see. This time is the Judgement of each individual. But is Judgment so disastrous? No. Rather, it is the Gods and Goddesses providing us with the opportunity we need to grow towards fulfillment. Whatever path one takes, every individual will have to firmly decide what side of the fence to be on (i.e., to be in accord with, or to be in opposition to nature and Her course). Is magick the fatalists' cure-all? No, your fate is not predestined, you have the Will to shape it. Magick teaches the ability to cause any desired change. In this aeon, each must make an individual decision about which approach to take toward the fulfillment of their own Purpose. In the former Piscean aeon fear of the Lord was the only mentality required. In this aeon there is no more waiting for my ship to come in. You must go to it and then board it! Blind faith never works. Faith in what you have experienced (which is therefore not illusion or ego) does work. *—In the Egypt's New Kingdom (which was corrupted, decadent and totally fallen from its spiritual state thousands of years before) people would make several small shwabti dolls to do their chores for them in the afterlife. They were the guarantee that the soft Egyptians would not have to over-exert themselves in the afterlife by doing physical labor.
