Chants

Chants are words which (when said correctly) move power within their speaker to create magical change. Below are a few chants for a variety of purposes. These (and all other chants) are effective only when spoken in conjunction with the movement of energy. As you say the chant, release your energy into the words. If you aren't proficient at this, pour emotion into the words. For best results, memorize all chants before using them.

A Healing Chant

Use while adding sandalwood, lavender, rosemary or any other healing oil to bath water:

In this bath I place this oil.
Let it burn and let it boil.
Let it bring healing to me.
This is my will. So mote it be!

To Guard a Home

Sprinkle salt throughout the house while saying:

From the North, from the East,
From the South, from the West,
From Above, from Below,
This house is now blessed.

From the North, from the East,
From the South, from the West,
From Above, from Below,
All ill here is at rest.

From the roof to the floor,
From the Wall to the door,
For now and evermore,
This household will be blessed.

To Guard a Child

Say this as the child is leaving for school, play or other activities:

Wound around,
Woven tight;
Bonds of love
Guard her (him) right;
Keep her (him) safe
With love bright;
Wound around,
Woven tight.

For Sleep

Sleep is sometimes slow in coming. There are as many reasons for this as there are people. This chant is to drowse the conscious mind sufficiently to achieve natural sleep. For chronic insomnia, see your health care practitioner.

Relax while saying these words. The aim of this chant isn't to raise power; it's to soften and sooth it. Memorize this chant long before retiring for the evening, perhaps in the morning, so that you can use it as needed. The words should spill from your lips without conscious effort. Repeat the chant for as long as you wish. Whisper.

Silver mist blows softly sweet;
Twilight bathes the shadowed sky;
Soon the clouds and moon shall meet,
Drowsing all that `neath them lie.
Sleep is but a breath away
Drift along its gentle lane;
Sleep is but a breath away;
Sleep till morning comes again.

(If you sleep during the day, substitute evening for morning.)
