Psalm to the Goddess
The Goddess is my gopi,
I am fulfilled.
She invites me to roll like a calf in the grasses.
She dances with me along the streambed.
She has birthed my heart anew.
Though the world is filled with armaments
and towers of iron
I walk in strength and joy, For I feel Thee within me.
Thy trees and thy grains, they nourish me.
In times of fear and sorrow, Thine arms embrace me.
Thou hast braided my hair with Thine own hands.
Our love is unbounded.
Surely Justice and Compassion shall guide me
through all time
And I shall be reborn from thy holy Womb
Refreshed
and Ever New.

Gopi is Hindu, meaning cowherd girl. The young god Krishna was said to have danced and made love with the gopis of the fields. Thus, the word carries connotations of not only nurturing and guidance, but also of youth, play and sensual abandon. |
