You've Seen Me
You've seen me in the water,
rippling and darting with the light
at times appearing to be one of the fish
that streaking silver
flashes across to the other end of the world.
This pond is my home
and all oceans sound in my depths.
You've seen me in the sky,
glimmering down like the brightest of moons
on a summer night
when the air penetrates your naked skin
making you feel alive.
I am the stars you wear in your eyes
blinded by eternity
as you gaze into the universal deep
wondering about secrets
that you've somehow always known.
And you see that I am also of the earth
in each new bud,
blade of grass and ancient ringed tree
holding all of life's secrets
reminding you that your naked soul
is part of the ground
that you have walked upon
since the beginning of time.
I am also the fire.
I am the fire of your need to be,
your need to feel yourself
your self as you are
and always have been
before your skin,
flesh,
indeed your very heart
became covered.
