Understanding Your Dreams VI
The Healing Power of Dreams
Diana Haronis
Imagine, for a moment, that life is a dream, and when we are asleep, our consciousness is free to review and interpret the dream we call life. To a large extent this is true. We constantly create our outer life experiences with our thoughts and actions. Through our dreams, we can gain insight into the underlying cause or motivation behind what is occurring in our lives. For this reason, dreams are a powerful tool for both psychological and physical healing.
We create physical diseases on a mental or psychological level before they manifest in the physical. By analyzing our dreams, we are able to uncover the root of the problem and understand what negative thought patterns are creating the disharmony or causing us to sabotage ourselves. For example, a feeling of being repressed or smothered may manifest outwardly as asthma. A fear of intimacy, or guilt associated with sex can manifest outwardly as a sexual disease. Our dreams can always reveal our deep psychological fears and anxieties. Through interpreting our dreams, we can discover the cause of many of our physical and mental problems and begin to heal ourselves.
We also receive nutritional advice and remedies through our dreams. If you dream of eating nails, it could indicate a need for iron. If you dream of taking a bath or shower, it may show a need for a physical or emotional cleansing. Sometimes you may dream of a specific food or drink, and wake up craving it. Listen to your body and pay attention to what it tells you through your dreams. For example, a dream of eating oranges may indicate a need for vitamin C. By correcting the problem right away, you may avoid an impending illness.
Many times, our dreams diagnose physical problems. The physical body is often portrayed symbolically as our car (the physical vehicle), or our home (the house of our soul). Clogged pipes in the basement can indicate intestinal problems. Cleaning up a very messy house can show a need for mental or physical cleansing. A dead battery in your car can be symbolic of heart problems. Running out of gas can show a need to replenish your energy. The state of the air conditioner or the air filter can relate to the condition of your lungs.
Other times, dreams are straightforward in telling you the nature of a health problem; but then again, you must look deeper. Not all dreams about illness relate to actual physical diseasein fact, most do not. A dream of having arthritis could symbolize a need to be more flexible. A dream of having cancer could represent anger or fear that is eating away at you. A dream of blindness is usually a refusal to look at something, etc.
On another level, spiritual healings often take place during the Dream State. Our souls, as expressions of God/Goddess, have the ability to heal ourselves and others. People who work with healing in their outer lives, often continue their work during sleep, traveling to others in need of healing and helping them on an astral level. During sleep, our spirits are free to travel to other realms and to connect with the source of all knowledge. Therefore, the work we do at an astral level can bring about powerful changes within the physical.
Sometimes a spiritual master will manifest to us on an astral level in order to affect a healing. One time, when I was very sick and tossing about in a fitful sleep, Jesus manifested to me. He ran his hands over my body, from the top of my head to my feet. As he did this, an intense energy poured into my body. When I awoke the next morning, I was completely healed. Others have spoken of similar experiences with different spiritual masters, angels, the Goddess or simply, beings of light.
Dreams are incredibly helpful in psychological healing, as well, for they give us insight into the workings of the subconscious mind. Our true feelings, fears and desires are revealed in dreams. We are often shown how past experiences have created problems for us in the present. Sometimes we are even given glimpses of past lives, which contain important clues to our present state of being.
Through dreams, we gain an overview of how we are functioning on all levels, as a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being. We can then work with our dreams in order to bring about a healing on any or all of these levels.
Until next time, Sweet Dreams!
