Magic and the Western Mind
By Gareth Knight
Llewellyn, $12.95
This is not a book on magick per se; rather, it is a historical view of the development of Western religious and philosophical thought. Gareth Knight has written a basic history of the many different religious and philosophical movements that have influenced the transformation of Western thought during the last two thousand years. He also shows how this has led to present forms of magick and the New Age movement. Knight gives basic information on religions and philosophies, including: ancient Judaism, Platonism, Christianity, the Cathars, the Rosicrucians and the Golden Dawn.
Magick and the Western Mind is a very interesting and well written book. It is ideal for those seeking wanting basic knowledge on various Western religions and philosophies, including how, when and where they developed and the people involved. This would also be an excellent reference book for almost anyone's library. And $12.95 is a fairly reasonable price for all the information it contains.
