Ah, 'tis spring, the time of flowers and frolics and the May Queen!
How can we be glum about life in the face of nature's splendor? It helps to be realistic. We can't forget our purposes, even as we play. We must take tender loving care of all life. That means that to play is human, but to recycle is divine.
MAY: May brings us one of the most celebrated rituals of the year, that of May Day or Beltane. This celebration of the anticipation of summer is symbolic of the anticipation we can feel for the growth of our still young projects and ideas, begun at the Winter Solstice.
The New Moon on the 2nd begins a month-long cycle of constructive action that will slowly bring maturity and reward to your projects. It is a time of concern for manifesting inner beauty in practical ways. We tend to be more comfort-oriented at this time as well.
Although May Day is celebrated on the 1st, the actual astrological time for the spring cross quarter is May 5th. After this, we enter a period of rapid and exciting developments that will tell us what the big challenges of the next few years will be. There will quite likely be events that will turn people's heads around the world to at least one of the hotbeds of turmoil on the planet.
May 6th brings a blessing, an activation of spirituality that may bring spiritual and emotional peak experiences. Then the 7th through the 29th carries great revelations and a challenge to us to maintain a balance in the midst of rash, even violent activity.
On the 7th, we will experience a release of energy related to a focus we took on August 13th of last year. A climax of activities begun last mid-November and which appeared in high focus during the 3rd week of February will come around May 11th. This concerns Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, which of course can come in many forms.
The 14th brings challenges with broad implications. These will be potentially explosive—violent on a world level. Personally, you may experience more anger than usual and feel a need to express it. This energy may crest with the wave of the Full Moon on the 16th. This is the Wesak (Taurus) Full Moon, a Tibetan holy day as big to Buddhists as Christmas is to Christians. On this day, the planet receives the blessing of Christ and the Buddha, and this energy is transmitted around the earth by those celebrating at the time of the Full Moon. This Full Moon will bring us a sacred blessing of transforming inner beauty. Allow yourself to accept changes so that this beauty can unfold. We must let go of the forms of the past in order to see the beauty of the future in the present.
When the Sun enters Gemini on the 20th, we'll pick up the pace. Do you feel more talkative now, more ready to explore something new? These are your Gemini instincts speaking to you. You may notice that people become more restless. They sense the coming of summer. This is a time of year that many schoolteachers have come to dread, their students rebelling in bored anticipation of the coming time of freedom and relaxation!
The end of May starts a time requiring extra focus. For about a week, you may feel tested, even overloaded with obligations and responsibilities. If you hang tough and discriminate among the demands made on you to fulfill only those which really require your attention, you will make the most of this time. Remember, delegate and set boundaries!
JUNE: Starting on the 14th, we enter a six-week period during which we can bring new projects and ideas into manifestation. You don't have to complete them, just lay the groundwork for later growth and reward. If you make sure that what you are building is going to meet your survival needs and support the group to whom you are emotionally attached (e.g., your family), you will fair well during the end of this year.
The same day brings us to another eclipse cycle, with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse focusing on right human relationship. If there are any peace talks around this time (which there should be if our leaders are listening to their inner voices), they may actually make some progress. This is a time when we may focus on communicating with others, exploring intimacy and sharing universal love with a sensual theme.
When the Sun enters Cancer on the 20th, you may feel a not-so-strange desire to withdraw into the enfolding energies of your family. Time for vacation or just relaxing a bit more as the summer heat is turned on. Water sports become popular, but our technologically befouled beaches may require us to exercise a caution not required in the past. Use this month to explore your feelings, get in touch with your emotional needs.
The end of June will bring the opportunity for doing this, as we experience the last Solar Eclipse in Cancer for 9 years. We get one last chance during the coming months to focus on the theme of ethical survival on a finite planet.
One thing to remember in all these effects that I describe is that they are not discrete events, but part of an inner process that will rise and fade. The bigger, longer term ones will take weeks, months, and even years to be felt and experienced completely. They will run together in our consciousness. Some will affect us personally because they can be grasped personally. Others are not personal in nature, and unless we are in touch with our spirituality, we will not feel anything or we may misunderstand what we feel. Some of these energies correlate with influences that affect us on a broad scale, as societies, civilizations and a species. It is a challenge to take the time and energy to cultivate the inner attunement to bring in an awareness of all these levels of consciousness, but it is rewarding when we do so.
During the spring of 1992, you will find hot spots in your chart in Capricorn, Aries and Scorpio. If you understand what is happening in these areas of your chart, you will understand the nature of the changes and how they will affect you.
This year we make a wonderful beginning in a totally new consciousness, at least on a socio-cultural level if not on a spiritual level. Soon the eclipse points will shift into Gemini-Sagittarius, and our focus will change to communication and the power of the media. Watch for changes in advertising and marketing law—more limitations to accommodate the growing abuses of telecommunications. Radical reform may be proposed, such as the elimination of commercial advertising in certain forms and to certain audiences. In the meantime, we need to embrace the higher energy of Cancer, the nurturing Great Mother archetype within us. We get one more eclipse cycle to feel Her energy in this way, to feel our connection to our Great Earth Mother and nurture Her and heal Her as She nurtures and heals us. She is a most appreciative and responsive Being, and given the chance, She will more than repay our efforts.
