Astrological Forecast
January February, 1992
Terry Lamb, M.A.
Once again, the year starts off with a bang. For several years, we have had the Sun's conjunction with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune at or near New Year's Day. This year, the planets have finally moved on, but their shadows are being activated by the eclipses, which are occurring at the mid-degrees of Capricorn to trigger these planetary footprints.
The Cancer-Capricorn axis has provided us with many dilemmas over the past few years. They have been reaching into our lives to create events and experiences since last November.
What does this axis represent, and what has it brought us so far? Cancer represents the Motherthe nurturing, emotional side of our being that resides in our gut, comes from our past and is most evident in our homes. Gut feelings, instincts, protectiveness (as of a mother toward her young), and re-actions (actions based on responses to external and internal stimuli) are all part of the Cancer energy pattern. Cancer is mystical and magnetic, like the Moon (its ruling planet) which draws us out when it is full. On a personal level, Cancer has a strong motivation to find emotional security. Ultimately, security must be found on a higher level of Self. But for most people, this results in a drive for emotional comfort. This often means not wanting to look at the horrors of life because we feel emotional discomfort. It can create a desire to avoid personal responsibility as a response to this discomfort. There is often a desire to remain insulated and isolated within one's safety zone (family)to not look outside into the real world. At its worst, instead of personifying the Mother, we may remain infants in consciousness, never taking full responsibility for our beings.
Through Capricorn we are asked to take responsibility for ourselves, both on a personal scale and in terms of our role in civilization. Are we taking care of ourselves? Are we living up to our commitments, both immediate and long-term? Are we fulfilling our role as planetary citizensare we fully responsible, non-destructive members of our species? Are we car-pooling, or are stubbornly sticking to old patterns of living that are flagrantly stupid and irresponsible? The positive manifestation of Capricorn is to take a global view and act responsibly for the whole. On the negative side, Capricorn can bring out the fear and retractive conservatism in us. The weakest points of Capricorn are: acting out the desire to protect one's share, excluding others from one's own bounty due to a fear of lack, or using others for personal gain.
Cancer and Capricorn present hard choices for those of us used to having what we want, lulled into a sense of false complacency during the Reagan era and in trouble during the Bush era. Well, no matter how metaphysical you are, you can't make the ozone hole magically disappearwe as a species must change our ways to reverse the destructive forces that have been unleashed.
Chances are, if you live in Western culture and are working with the spirit of the challenges of Cancer and Capricorn, you are facing the fact that Westerners live too high on the hog and have to tone down their lifestyle in dramatic ways. Everyone is cutting back, much to the dismay of the spin doctors and fluff merchants of our culture. How often have they told you that you absolutely need that 15th sweater, that pile of junk food or that gas-guzzling vehicle? Now we're learning to just say no to the rampant material addictions that (attempt to) enslave us all.
Slowly our priorities as a species and as individual nations are shifting. Survival issues are never stronger than under a Cancer-Capricorn influence.
While 1991 through 1993 may prove to be incredibly difficult years for everyone, they will provide us with a depth of wisdom and great rewards on a planetary level if we respond properly.
In the short run, January and February promise to be times of new beginnings and activation. This year we do not have the Gulf War to distract us from our more real issues and problems.
JANUARY: Following the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at the winter solstice, we have the New Moon Solar Eclipse on January 4th. The timing of thisat the beginning of the yearly cycleand the juxtaposition of the other planets at the time of the eclipse suggest that this year will be marked by dramatic shifts in consciousness. We will truly understand what the nature of the Uranus-Neptune conjunction is by the end of 1992. We will have moved forward quite clearly in fulfilling its purpose for us at this time in human evolution. On a personal level, this may be a do or die year.
Eclipses always bring real-life actions and events that affect our lives in visible ways. There is nothing symbolic about the eclipsesthey move us and shake us through life. On a personal level, we will be working with the themes of Cancer-Capricorn as well as those associated with Uranus and Neptune: releasing old patterns for more innovative, intuitive ways; tuning in to unseen realms; discovering areas of illusion and disillusion in our lives; marrying self and Spirit into Self; the possibility of breaching the gap between matter and Spirit.
Both ancient and modern spiritual sources have proposed that this time marks a unique opportunity for the evolution of consciousness for our earth and every species on it. The Maya constructed a timetable which suggests that we are about to make a great leap forward into a realm where we will become identified with our light bodies rather than the physical bodies we now attach our identity to. This does not mean that we give up the physical, only that we become conscious of the light body and begin to see its reality as our primary life story.
I would like to propose that, with the eclipse on the conjunction of Uranus and Neptune in January 1992, the movement into the light body will begin to occur for those who are ready to accept it.
What might this be like? There are many symptoms, most common are those commonly associated with spiritual awakening: becoming aware of unseen reality/truth; experiencing energy shifts in the body; developing psychic awareness; seeing previously unseen energies and beings; weight gain due to needing less food (since you are receiving more nourishment from light itself); increased susceptibility to drugs and other pollutants; occurrence of illnesses which resist standard medical treatment, and so on. Any of these sound familiar? They should, because there is a widespread shift taking place, whether people are aware of it or not.
If we consider Uranus-Neptune to be the hour hand of a clock, the eclipse is the minute hand. When Mars enters Capricorn on the 9th, it becomes the sweep second hand, ticking off the shift in consciousness. The culmination of energies will occur on February 1st, when all three hands meet at one place on the clock.
Around the 12th, the keynote will be illumination and flowing change, when we may be presented with an opportunity to expand in unexpected ways. Wait for world events affecting freedom and human rights.
From the 14th through the 18th, the theme will be adjustment to the need to make a transition. This transition will involve restructuring due to an activation or inflammation of circumstances. There could be events disrupting the peace of areas where conflict is still close to the surface. This could also be true in our personal lives. The economic statistics that come out around the middle of the month promise to be deflating, by the way.
Still, life must go on in mundane ways, and the theme of the Full Moon on January 19th is likely to be: we will survive. We will transcend our fears and worries naturally as the Sun enters Aquarius, and we tune into a higher reality almost in spite of ourselves. We haven't lost sight of our personal dilemmas and world crises, we have just decided to take a more objective approach to them. We may actually begin to feel comfortable with what would have made us squirm a year ago, and it isn't due to numbness, just to having lived through a great deal more than we had one year ago.
This change in perspective comes just in time, because we will be asked to make some changessome dramatic, if we darefrom the 22nd through the 26th. The 26th will bring a new awareness and some possible changes regarding things begun around July 23rd last year and receiving focus around November 21st.
The 27th through February 1st should be a time of great activity, in spite of the approaching New Moon. Take care to note what is occurring around the 29th, since this is the date when a new yearly cycle involving structure and responsibility begins. Watch for the opportunity for new commitments bringing reward at this time. Just make sure you base your decisions on wisdom and experience.
FEBRUARY: As mentioned earlier, the 1st is the end of a time of high planetary focus, or culmination. Use this awareness in ritual during Imbolc, when you can tap the dawning awareness of the coming 26,000-year Great Cycle can through the Lady on Her day, if you desire. This time of the waxing light carries great promise for the coming year, especially if you are willing to tap into the power of Uranus and Neptune. By the way, Imbolc celebrates the solar cross quarter, which occurs at 15 Aquarius. This does not actually transpire until the 4th.
The New Moon on the 3rd will further potentiate this new beginning. It is especially powerful to dedicate yourself to new beginnings in awareness and inner growth at this time.
If Pluto were a rock and Transpluto were a hard place, you would be caught between a rock and hard place on the 7th and 8th. There is a way out, howeverit means being able to distinguish between what may seem to be the lesser of two evils, but is actually a blessing in disguise. Change is the essence of these days, but don't do anything rash!
Once again, on the 11th, we reach another culmination point, this one with a theme of transmutation and deep transformation. You may not be entirely aware of what is happening at this time. The day may slip by with no noteworthy experiences, unless you are well attuned to Transpluto. To give you a hint, we were making the mold for this time period around August 15th and November 20th.
If you were to focus on the economy on or around the 16th, you would see further signs of the need for economic adjustment. We may see some renewal of hope, but it may be a year before even the weakest recovery shows. We will probably have to wait until after the actual Uranus-Neptune conjunctions in 1993 to see any robust changes in the economy. Still, down-sizing will continue to be a theme for the rest of this century.
On the 17th, you may perceive a subtle breath of fresh air, even upliftment. Things aren't so bad after all! That hard dose of reality that set in mid-January was good for us and not interminable.
The Full Moon on the 18th opens a window of dumb luck (we know there is no such thing) which extends through the 24th and may temper the effects that Pluto may have on the coming year. Pluto brings transformation, mass movements and shifts in mass consciousness. Pluto often affects large groups such as nations, corporations and organized crime as much as the individual. This window of opportunity may show some relief coming to the well-managed, ethical corporationperhaps some good press for socially conscious companies and funds. The media have traditionally ignored these entitiesyou'd think that spirituality and new consciousness didn't exist if you based your reality on the mass media. Clearly, some of the shift in mass consciousness toward spirit must occur because the media have had a change of heart. Perhaps this time frame will set the pace for some advances in this respect during 1992. On a personal level, of course, we can also take advantage of this opportunity for positive communication and healing change. I wouldn't automatically assume that dumb luck would bring a win in the lottery, however.
February goes out with a bang, as Pluto stations to retrograde (turns backward) and the Sun opposes Jupiter. Watch what occurs from the 24th through the 28th, as these events will figure in what occurs later this year, on April 30th (Jupiter), May 11th (Pluto) and July 30th (Pluto). Look at what happened around August 17th (Jupiter), November 12th (Pluto) and December 30th (Jupiter) for clues to what is to come. Jupiter traveling through Virgo represents expansion of the working class, streamlining and creating more efficient systems, and a shift in consciousness toward more practical ways of life. These themes (and Pluto's) will be played out in your life according to what house(s) Jupiter (Pluto) is traveling through.
Hot spots in your chart are to be found during January and February in Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo. If you understand what is happening with respect to these areas of your chart, you will understand the nature of the changes and how they will affect you.
This year it may be easier to place more value on sharing health, happiness and good times with loved ones instead of engaging in an endless quest for more things. We need to embrace the higher energy of Cancer, not deny it. We need to feel our connection to our Great Earth Mother and protect Her. Even as She mothers us, Her children, we must recognize the most precious of gifts that She gives uslife. We must show Her respect by having respect for Her and Her other children, of whatever species.
Blessed Be! |
